Breaking news. Last ride for The Wolverine

IThat's right, or rather last time for star Hugh Jackman according to his latest post on Instagram.
I'm assuming this will be for X-Men:Apocalypse which according to IMDB is in pre production with a 2016 release. While I'm glad he can move on I'm  kind of sad as this is the only wolverine I've known.

Winning at This Dad thing

Geeky Dad is WINNING!!

Ya..I know I know that is a very bold statement but some things are developing that are showing me that the proverbial apple doesn't fall far from the tree.  Before I go on I want it noted that I have not pushed or exposed my kids to anything other than what is incidental to every day life.  I'm not like that...they're free to make their own decisions (even though they're 3 and 5) about what they want to watch.

The first thing I'm going to talk about is Looney Tunes.  Its no mystery that I love me some Bugs, Daffy, Sylvester, Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn and all their friends.  I'm not talking about the watered down new stuff you're seening on teletoon these days.  I'm talking the pre-1970's stuff that still has all the same violence and mayhem that I enjoyed as a kid.  Well here there's a channel called "Teletoon Retro" that shows all the older cartoons from my youth and then some...well every once in a while I would turn it on and have me a little bugs and show my kids what cartoons were like when I was their age...well, it wasn't long before they started to ask for "Bugs Bunny".  So then I thought...Why not try other cartoons.

On Netflix they had a few seasons of "Scooby-Doo - Where are you?" so I thought "hey..why not give this a try"  So I threw one on and they loved it.  Again they kept asking for more more more.  To the point where at Christmas time one of their grandparents found a box set of "the New Scooby-Doo Movies" featuring such talents as Don Knotts, Jonathan Winters, Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges and others.  Once again, rarely does a day go by that they don't ask to watch one of these disks. My eldest is particularly enamoured with the ones with Batman and Robin.  Who can blame her right?

So I continued on.  My youngest (Named Parker both because I love Spider-man and my wife wouldn't go for Leia or Padme) Seemed to be interested in some of the Pictures of superheros I have...she's learned names like The Hulk, Wolverine, Storm, and, of course, Spider-Man.  So once I saw that Netflix had "Spider-man and his Amazing Friends" (1981) Again I thought I'd give it a try and my little Parker didn't disappoint.  We watched and entire season in an afternoon and she was still asking for more.  Now my kids run around pretending to be Firestar and want daddy to be Iceman...which I kindly oblige.  Parker is kind of partial to spidey...as you can see.

When I decided to be a dad I had hoped I'd be able to instill many of the values and outlooks I have in my life...and maybe, just maybe a few of the interests.  But so far..this has gone beyond what I had hoped for.  I can't wait to see what the future brings.

I'm a Gen Xer...Holy F#&*

I am a Gen Xer.

Sometimes in the early mornings in my daily shower I get reflective about things.  This morning I found my mind wandering to the subject of my life, my generation and all the incredible things that have happened in just my short time on this planet.

First off...lets get the definition crap out of the way for those reading who have no idea.  I stole this from Wikipedia..read the entire article HERE

Gen X is the generation born after the Western post–World War II baby boom describing a generational change from the Baby Boomers.  In a 2012 article for the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, George Masnick wrote that the "Census counted 82.1 million" Gen Xers in the U.S. The Harvard Center uses 1965 to 1984 to define Gen X.

Gen Xers are often called the MTV Generation. They experienced the emergence of music videos, new wave music, electronic music, synthpop, glam rock, heavy metal and the spin-off glam metal, punk rock and the spin-off pop punk, alternative rock, grunge, and hip hop.

Compared with previous generations, Generation X represents a more apparently heterogeneous generation, openly acknowledging and embracing social diversity in terms of such characteristics as race, class, religion, ethnicity, culture, language, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

You're welcome.

So I was born in the mid 70s, smack dab in the middle of Gen X So I was thinking of some of the stuff that I've experienced and things that have changed in my short life..here's a (perhaps not so) brief list

GEEKY TYPE THINGS

THE EVOLUTION OF PHONE TECH - In my life I've talked on a roatary dial phone, punched keys on a touch tone phone, owned early cell phones (motorola bag phone anyone?) late 90's motorola flip phones, Palm Treo, Blackberry, to my current iPhone.  I've seen the invent of cell phone technology, text messaging and smart phones..all in less than 40 years.

VIDEO GAMES - So here's the short list of consoles I have personally owned.  Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, Wii, Xbox, Xbox360, XboxOne.  Thats not to mention all the ones I haven't owned, Playstation 1, 2 3 and 4, Sega Genesis, Turbografix 16, Atari Jaguar, and a whole bunch of others I'm not mentioning.  That's not to mention the handheld consoles too, gameboy, gamegear, PSP, Nintendo DS, DSI, 3DS.  Graphics from simple squares to 8 bit Super Mario bouncing across my screen for hours on end to the hi res 3D graphics of the current consoles.  I also remember dropping quarters into arcade games as a kid, One game I can remember loving was Rampage.  Anyone else remember this one?

STAR WARS - There has literally not been a time that I can remember in my entire life that Star Wars didn't exist.  I have always had a healthy obsession with this (see my other blog posts, you'll figure it out quickly)  This movie changed the way movies are made and set the bar for visual effects and sound design.  Even today, ILM and Skywalker Sound (If you didn't know are the result of the direct success of George Lucas and the Star Wars franchise)are the Hollywood standard for sound and CGI Effects in movies.

THE INTERNET - Could you imagine what the world would be like today if the internet didn't exist.  I lived in that world..up until highschool.  I still remember a bunch of us being herded into the school library and shown this wonderful thing called the internet.  Back then it was all text based and dialup.  I went to a rural highschool so we had to dial into the most local University to get access to it.  After highschool I went to college and was introduced to the world wide web and Netscape Navigator.  After that it continued to evolve...websites for everything, social networking, blogging, twitter, Facebook, the list goes on and on.

WORLD EVENTS

Looking back there has been a lot of stuff happen in the world during my lifetime.  Here are a few highlights in no particular order...actually there is an order...of when I remember them

  • Princess Diana was married and then buried
  • Challenger space shuttle explosion
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall
  • Chernobyl Disaster (Same year as the Challenger, yay 1986)
  • The Gulf War
  • Collapse of the Soviet Union
  • OJ Simpson Murders and Trial
  • 9-11
  • 5 Catholic Popes
  • Hurricane Katrina
  • Death of Michael Jackson
  • Tiananmen Square
  • Hong Kong Handover
  • Y2K
  • San Francisco Earthquake
  • Toronto Blue Jays World Series Champions 2 years in a row
  • Toronto Maple Leafs Stanly Cup Champs not at all
I realize that there is so much more that I haven't mentioned.  Comment below some of your favourite developments of the last 40 years or so

YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS?

I'm starting to get older.  There's no denying it, it happens to everyone, the grey hairs on my chin and head reminds me of this fact every time I glance at the mirror.

Lately though there's been several things that I have been noticing from day to day.  These things are really starting to get on my nerves.  Call it old age (I'm only late 30's but still) call it intolerance, call it being a giant douche, call it whatever you want to really.  But there are things that I see, on people's facebook posts, other social network feeds, TV, movies, the way people talk, and all kinds of other places that when they do it I die a little inside.  So, as a way to vent, here's my post (possibly the first of several) of "WHAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS".

1. the "Everything you post is about me" People

Even though this one isn't a big one for me, I figured I'd cover this one first because a link to this blog entry will most likely go to my facebook and I want this out right of the hop.  OK...we all have that one "friend on Facebook" or maybe you have 2 or more...You know...you post something that annoys you or something you heard about someone else doing or just a general status about anything that could be perceived as "controversial".  And that "friend" automatically assumes the post is about them.  you could have 12,861 friends you COULD be talking about but of course...because this person is so self absorbed they think you MUST be talking about them.  Ugh...OK..so let me set the record straight right now for everyone with a facebook page being monitored by this self-involved-self-important-delusions-of-grandeur person on your friends list.  Dear Mr Prince/Ms Princess of the kingdom of "GETOVERYOURSELF"  If we choose to post something on our own personal Facebook Page, it is not, repeat IS NOT necessarily about you..or anyone for that matter..and...with the number of friends most of us have, it's DEFINITELY NOT about you.  I have had instances with a couple of these "friends" who made it necessary for me to basically say, for the umpteenth time "no it's not  you...no its not about you...it is my facebook..I will post what I want about what I want when I want...if this is going to cause you to get stressed out and think it's all meant for you...then by all means...unfriend me..do whatever..I DO NOT CARE"  They did unfriend me...almost every time, thankfully, major weight off.  SO...if you are one of these people who think everything I write or post is about you, it's about to get real...so it's probably best if you stop reading when you see the meerkat.

.
.
.
.
.

ok then...moving on

2. The  word "BAE"

This is a word that I've seen pop up a lot lately all over the internet..usually by fairly young pretty people.  From what I've read it basically mean "baby" or "sweetie" so I guess it's just a lazy way to say baby??  I wasn't aware we were rationing syllables but young people seem to be in such a hurry these days that two syllables are just too many I guess.  Now I could say all kinds of things about these people but I don't have to..tuns out..the word "BAE" is an actual word...in Danish......for POOP.  Jokes on you internet and every stupid person who uses this shitty word (see what I did there?)

3. Duckface

Ok..need I say more? it's not cute or attractive. You look like someone took your photo at the precise moment the clot came free and entered your brain.

4. These Fucking things

I mean what...in...the...actual...hell??? Who finds this look attractive?  I mean if you're a jaguar ...maybe but come on..not pretty, not functional, just dumb.

And while we're on the subject.  All claw hand photos of your freshly painted nails.  Nobody cares. Gears...ground.

5. Bad Grammar

I'm going to preface this so I don't sound like a pretentious douche.  In grade school I had at least two teachers who were big on grammar.  Always were on my ass about their, they're or there...your and you're...the list goes on.  So now when I see someone comment on a social post with "your cute" i shudder.  When I tell someone something and they say "I no" I tear up a little.  When someone says "I seen that the other day" I slam my face down on my desk.  Seriously?  Have none of you gone to school?  Ok..to help you loyal reader here's a quick list

hear - is when you use your ears to detect sound
here - is when you use your feet and are taking up some ground
there - is like here but just a bit further from you
their - means that spot over there..belongs to them
they're - is actually two words...they are...crazy right?
your - something belong's to you
you're - two words again..you guessed it...you are
are - as in "you are reading this"
our - as in "this is our meatball"
seen - is something that happens when eyeballs are on you
saw - is something that happens when you are the eyeballs

Grind away gears...grind away.

6. Uptalk

You know..that person? who talks as if everything they say? is a question?

wow...this is a long post..ok..So I guess I better end there.  So in closing let me just say...everything I write is satire..don't be so uppity.  If you don't like it, then that just means I'm funnier than you...and maybe even better looking.  Just remember people, don't take life too seriously..you'll never get out alive.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Premiere

Ok. I feel I have to chime in a bit. I JUST watched the premiere of "Agents" and while I thought it was a solid first episode I do feel the need to chime in a couple of things I noticed.

Coulson
Ok. He's back. They faked his death or whatever. I figured that out when I saw the promos. But this whole "he never should find out" thing. Lame. The show would be ok without it.

Agent Grant Ward
Or, more specifically the actor that plays him, Brett Dalton. Horrible actor. Ugh. Hope he gets some acting lessons before he goes and ruins the show.

References to every movie Marvel has made...like ever!!
Ok kids. Let's count. Tell me if I missed anything. Ahem
New York
Stark tower
Gamma
The Chitauri
Super soldier serum
Agent Romanoff
The Spider-Man esque way buddy climbed the building
Mention of Thor's arms
Mention of Loki
Exremis
And even used the train station the final scenes is the same station that gets a new sunroof thanks to Cyclops' laser vision  in the very first Xmen movie. I'm sure there was more. This is just off the top of my head.

Yes. We get it Joss. This series is set firmly in the Marvel universe. No need to ram it down our throats.

All that said. I'll be watching. For sure

Congrats Georgie-boy

George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson became the proud parents of a baby girl earlier this month.  How did  I miss this story?..sheesh

Anyway Congrats to one of my all time heroes....and welcome baby Everest.  Since George is such an intensely private person there is like Zero photos of the baby online...so this is all I could find.

Dareman? BatDevil? Bad Idea?

So this week I’ve decided to try to write in this thing more.  It’s been the better part of a year since my last post so naturally I’m a huge slacker.  Ok…maybe slacker is the wrong word…being the father of  2 small kids, working full time and with a side business of my own leaves little time to sit in front of a computer and write.  Well I’m going to try harder to post more often.

The other problem that I was faced with after deciding to write again was topic.  Sure, there was lots of stuff I could write about from this past summer, new Iron Man, new Superman, convention musings, etc.  But I wanted something fresh and current, so I was at a loss.  Then yesterday it hit me, in the form of a headline I saw while CP24 played in the background…”Ben Affleck to play Batman in Man of Steel Sequel”

Pardon?  Can this be true?  The man who help destroy Daredevil (because let’s face it, between Affleck, Garner, and Farrell that movie was an abortion) is really going to be taking over for Christian Bale as the Dark Knight.  Ok...so he’s an Academy Award winner (But not for acting) and he’s a good looking fella.  And, according to Joss Wheadon he’s got the “chin”

I was just talking about this very thing with my wife not 2 days before the announcement was made.  At the time we were watching True Blood and in particular a scene involving Sookie and Alcide Herveaux played by Joe Manganiello.  We discussed how we thought he’d be a great Batman.  He’s got the voice, physique, and yes…chin that would work for both Bruce Wayne and batman.  I mean the man was runner up to Henry Cavill in Man of Steel so to me he seems like an obvious choice.  For a new Batman I think you have to walk the line between super well known actor and unknown actor so Joe just works.  That’s why I think the last couple of choices that worked (Michael Keaton, Christian Bale) worked and the couple that, in my opinion, didn’t work (George Clooney, Val Kilmer)

Another actor I heard as a possible contender to fill the shoes was Josh Brolin.  Again…famous enough but not too famous.  He has enough of a dark, brooding personality, the good looks, voice, and, yes even the chin.  Also, if this movie is supposed to take place many years after The Dark Knight Rises, then a slightly older/middle aged Batman would be in order.  For this Brolin would have been awesome in the role I think.  But Ben Affleck, Ben Affleck?? Ugh…I just don’t know.

However, In the end, when all is said and done…

Disney Is Buying my Childhood

Hello readers, long time no post :( Sorry about that

First the Muppets, then Marvel and now this.

Disney Acquires Lucasfilm!!!  New Star Wars Movie by 2015.

Here is the official press release.

An exciting new future featuring the continuation of the Star Wars movie saga was announced on October 30, as the Walt Disney Company enters an agreement to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. from George Lucas. Backed by the global reach and brand stewardship strengths of Disney, the future of Star Wars is now under the direction of acclaimed film producer and studio executive Kathleen Kennedy, co-chairman of Lucasfilm. Kennedy and Disney plan a slate of new Star Wars feature films, beginning with the long-awaited Star Wars: Episode VII, targeted for release in 2015, followed by Episodes VIII and IX. Additional feature films are expected to continue the saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," said George Lucas. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's strength gives Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

The acquisition has Lucasfilm and its creative works and operations enter into Disney's global portfolio of world-class brands that include Pixar and Marvel. "Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas," said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company. "This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney's unique and unparalleled ability to leverage creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value."

Kathleen Kennedy, current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become president of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Additionally she will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney's global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant.

The acquisition combines two highly compatible family entertainment brands, and strengthens the long-standing beneficial relationship between them that includes successful integration of Star Wars content into Disney theme parks in Anaheim, Orlando, Paris and Tokyo.

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Lucasfilm, a leader in entertainment, innovation and technology, and its operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, videogames, animation, visual effects, and audio postproduction. Disney will also acquire the substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies that have kept audiences enthralled for many years. The present intent is for Lucasfilm employees to remain in their current locations.

The acquisition has been agreed upon by the board of directors of both companies, and is undergoing customary regulatory review and should be complete in the next few months. For further developments on the continuation of the Star Wars saga, including Episode VII, continue checking StarWars.com.

I've eaten a little crow on this blog in the past so I'm reserving judgement.  Lets just say this Star Wars Geek is cautiously optimistic.

now off to watch the Avengers on Blu-Ray for the 18th time

So I was just watching the superbowl...minding my own business when THIS happened

Yeah....Can't wait for this summer..Between this, the Amazing Spider Man and the Dark Knight Rises... I'm going to be one busy Geek.  Finally after this past summer of kind of Meh movie releases, we're going to have a true blockbuster summer.

And on a side note..I think the Mark Ruffalo Hulk looks even better than the Ed Norton Hulk, much more true to the Comic book in my opinion.

*addition

Then early this morning..this happened

Yup...I'm officially Excited for this movie...Garfield is nailing it!!

Why, Toronto Comic-Con, WHY?!?!

Ok...I'm about to go on and on again about something that's got my knickers in a knot so this is a warning to all of you.  .............Hey you're still here...excellent.  Warning #2...this post is picture-heavy.

Here's my Beef of the Day...Why are the guests at the American Comic-cons so much more awesome than the Toronto Con

Looking at the Twitter feeds of a couple Celebrities I follow that were at the con and looking at the Wizard World website at some of the other Cons south of the border their guest list is somewhat more impressive than Toronto's.  For example the New Orleans Comic-Con that was just this past weekend posted such stars as

Stan Lee (Creater of like every Marvel Character since the early 60s)

James Marsters (Spike from Buffy and Angel)

Lou Ferrigno (TV's Hulk)

William Shatner

Twitter

Kevin Sorbo (TV's Hercules)

Twitter

Diora Baird (yum)

Twitter

Even a personal favourite of mine Josh "The Ponceman" Perry from a great YouTube Series called "The Retarded Police Man".  If you've never seen it, get your butt over to YouTube NOW and search it out.  You will not be disappointed...Comic gold..Oh heck..here's a sample...

Even the Philadelphia one that's coming up has such awesome names as

Bruce Campbell

Twitter

Charisma Carpenter (Buffy and Angel)

Shatner Again!!

Hayden Pannetiere

Kristy Swanson (the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Now Look at the somewhat mediocre list for the Upcoming Toronto Comic Con;

Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap...ok show but really?  kind of meh, and we won't even mention Enterprise)

Jeri Ryan (Good looking, Talented  but Star Trek Voyager was so 10 years ago)
....
Those were the top 2...next is

Amy Acker (Dollhouse, Angel)

A couple of WWE guys who I don't really care about as I'm not a fan of Da Raaslin, then a few other actors from tv shows I don't really watch like the Vampire Diaries and Serenity.  Throw in a smattering of secondary Character Star Wars characters like Peter Mayhew and Jeremy Bulloch and your comic book artists and viola...TORONTO COMIC-CON!

Is it the fear of the Great White North keeping these stars away, perhaps the prohibitive cost of travel and accomodations while here? (Diora, I'm only a short drive from Toronto and I have a BYOBed that you're welcome to any time, my basement is super comfy and has a nice TV, plus my kids are super cute, you'd love them)  Perhaps they don't think they'll have the fans to justify their coming..Hogwash...there were so many people there last year that any of these big stars would be more than busy.  Last year's con had Ray Park, Billy Dee Williams, Julie Benz, few other big names as well.  I want more big stars to start coming...here is my Toronto Comic-Con Bucket List.

William Shatner - Obviously

Mark Hamil - Use your frequent flyer miles Luuuuke

Harrison Ford - I know this one is a 12 parsec long shot but come on!!  Indy and Han...Hell ya!

Felicia Day - Talent, beauty, smarts, funny, and a redhead to boot...aside from my beautiful wife, she IS the perfect woman!

Kevin Smith - I am a true believer that if I had grown up anywhere near this guy that we would be BFF's still to this day...can dudes use the term BFF?

Bruce Campbell - The guy is just pure awesome...

Please come to Toronto...bring your BOOMSTICK

Come on Toronto Wizard World Comic Con organizers.  Get us some Excellent guests this year and maybe, just maybe I'll reconsider skipping this year's Festivities

...end Bitching session

Classy...Like a Bruin

Let me start of this post with a few facts about me that you may or may not know.

I am a Hockey fan, I am a proud Canadian, I also like beer.

I'm also a Toronto Maple Leafs fan (stop laughing.....no seriously...stop...please...I get it all the time) I have always been and always will be.  As such there are several teams who I absolutely hate. The Montreal Canadiens, the Ottawa Senators and of course I've never been a fan of the Boston Bruins.

I think my hate for the Bruins comes from 9th grade, when I was locker neighbours with a guy who was a huge fan and was the most obnoxious person in the whole school.  I mean nobody liked this guy, and I had to put up with his incessant rambling on and on about the Bruins.  In the years following I have noticed that most fans of the Bruins are like this...it's not their fault, it's the team.

Anyway.. in an article today in the Toronto Star today talked about how Bruins goalie Tim Thomas Refused to attend a visit with the president of the USA because he disagreed with his policies etc.  The entire article can be found here. To quote the article and old Tim-eh directly from a post on Facebook

“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL. This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT”

Really Tim?  Last I checked you played for a team, and in that spirit shouldn't you have just laid down your stupid arrogant pride and just gone to the thing, sucked it up for the day then thrown up after and moved on?  You may not like it but it's your team, you know the ones that stood in front of you and helped you earn that Stanley Cup Ring you're wearing.  But Oh No.  That's too good for you isn't it.  Proving once again that every one of the Boston Goo-ins are as full of class as the people you see in their home game stands every night.

Didn't have a problem accepting a medal at the 2010 winter Olympics playing for the US now did ya Timmy?  Hmmm...interesting.  Maybe Obama should take that bad boy back, melt it down to make brass knuckles and beat  your ass with it.  "How do you like my policies now bitch"

So, needless to say I was very annoyed with this story...until I read this in the Star later in the day.  I'm going to re post this article in it's entirety because it's just awesome and basically sums up the feeling of every Bruins hater on the planet.

RE POSTED FROM THE TORONTO STAR, JANUARY 24TH 2012;
By Cathal Kelly
Columnist

You won’t get the whole story on Tuesday night. Here’s the unexpurgated text of U.S. President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, including the four minutes that’ll be missing at the end.
“… and if Syria doesn’t like that, wait until they see the next letter we send over.

Now I see that you’re all searching around for your drink tickets, but before we open the Congressional bar, I’d like in closing to direct a personal message to my good friend playing the hockey game, Tim Thomas.

Tim, I was saddened to have missed you on Monday. We had the jet and the rendition protocols and everything all set up for your arrival.

In between negotiating the world’s hot spots and trying to stave off economic ruin, I like to take 30 seconds for myself each day. Just to veg out. During that precious time, it was brought to my attention that you’re unhappy with the job I’m doing. Bummer. I admit it, I was a little put out, mainly because I don’t like having to answer “Who said what now?” over and over again to a whole bunch of questions from the press.

It got worse when I went off script and wondered aloud if you were “the Canadian kid with the concussion.” I hate it when they laugh at me, Tim.

But Tim, I want to assure you that the number of capital letters in your clarifying statement has impressed upon me how important your concerns are. I want to take some time here to address a few of the suggestions listed on the note attached to the rock you threw through the Oval Office window.

First, it is simply impractical to redraw the tax code every year by a show of hands. Washington is not as big as you seem to think, and your idea for ferrying every single American into the city on black helicopters won’t work. For the last time, there are no black helicopters. I know it’s old school, but we use wiretaps to keep tabs on you.

Second, I agree that property ownership is a keystone of civic responsibility, but I don’t think you’re going to get a lot of takers with your ‘Vacate public housing and move into our national parks’ campaign. What about the people who end up in Alaska? As I’ve noted, there are no black helicopters to get them up there. I’m also not sure how this fits in with your plan to outlaw pants on women. Won’t it be cold?

I don’t understand your idea for replacing our water supply with grain alcohol. I’m fuzzy on the science of your ‘poisoned fluoride’ theory, but I’m pretty sure that an entire nation that’s drunk after it’s taken a morning shower isn’t good for productivity.

You may be on to something with this national service brainwave, but the Joint Chiefs and I are leery of using recent high school graduates to launch a sneak attack during spring break in Pyongyang. Believe me, we war-gamed that idea over and over and it only ends one way — with a whole lot of angry bar owners in Palm Springs. I need Florida, Tim.

And while I understand that forcing everyone working in government to wear a white wig and dentures made of wood is a romantic reminder of the Founding Fathers, it’s just not workable given our current budget constraints. Do you know what dentists charge to rip out viable teeth, Tim? I was also shocked to hear the going rate for a full head of human hair. It’s a scandal, and one that I may address once I’ve taken care a bajillion more important things.

Whatever you think of me, you know I’m not one to shut down a healthy debate. It’s the life blood of the republic, I’d suggest, perhaps even more so than your suggestion to “add more banjo” to the national anthem.

However, I’m going to have to issue a flat ‘No’ when it comes to the idea of launching a nuclear attack on Canada “just to prove to the rest of them that we’re not chicken.”

We’re not chicken, Tim. Chicken’s the last thing we are.

But that won’t turn silver to gold, will it, Tim? No, it won’t. All it will do is dirty up a bunch of oil we’re probably going to need some day very soon. I asked the Delta Force guys tailing you to work the other day, “Say, what’s Tim driving?” And even all the way up in that helicopter, they were 100 per cent sure it wasn’t a Prius. So maybe there’s some wiggle room in your position here.

Tim, we’re not so far apart, you and I. We both care about America’s future, except your future is the one that happens after the Russians invade. I’m hoping for the other one.

I’d be happy to talk about this and more in greater depth in a place, as you suggest, “where the satellites can’t see us.” I’m not much of a woodsman, Tim, so I trust that “the pit” you’re referring to is where we cook our dinner, not some sort of trap. Does this meeting have to be in Idaho? And do I really have to approach your bunker “alone, on foot and naked?” Because Idaho’s a lost cause for me and I’d hoped to skip it during a busy electoral year.

Please know that I’m looking forward to further dialogue with you, Tim. If you need to contact me again just open your front door and wave a tea towel. The Secret Service will know what that means.
