Random Thought of the Day #2

Having a drink with your lunch that consists only of soup seems redundant to me...

Geeky Dad: Who ya annoyed at?

Geeky Dad's Wife: Staff

GD: Who specifically?

GD: Or is there literally a staff in your store. You know like a wizard?

GDW: Lmao

Above all else...I am a Dad!!!

I realized recently that I have done a lot more that's "geeky" and not as much that's "Dad" ...well here you go.

Today my little girl was playing by herself, when she stopped suddenly and noticed I was watching her. She came toddling over to me, put her hand on my leg and smiled at me. At that moment I knew why I had become a father....then she looked in my eyes....

..and dropped the biggest, smelliest deuce ever

Random Thought of the Day

Watching Max & Ruby with my sweetie has made me realize something...

Ruby is kind of a bossy, bitchy, know-it-all.

The Bionic Tortoise

"We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better...stronger...faster"

Take one beloved pet tortoise, add a couple of wheels usually reserved for office furniture and presto..you got the worlds first bionic turtle (NANANANANANA)  When I read this story I was in hysterics.

According to the article in the Toronto Star today;

"Originally the adult tortoise’s owner had brought the animal into the hospital in hopes that doctors could heal an infected leg wound. The tortoise had damaged its left leg on an electrical fence that had fallen down in the garden where it lives

The team, however, had no choice but to amputate the tortoise’s entire leg after determining the infection posed a risk to the tortoise’s entire well-being.
But while animals such as dogs and cats can manage on three legs, things aren’t as easy for a tortoise with its heavy shell and sluggish movement.
The hospital’s wildlife expert, Cláudio Yudi Kanayama, came up with the next best thing: a wheel similar to a furniture caster. The doctor and his team glued a plastic shield onto the tortoise’s carapace (underside) before affixing a wheel to it.A second wheel was added a few weeks later in a follow-up appointment to give the tortoise even more balance."

They say truth is stranger than fiction..and this is definitely the case here. I wonder what kind of life span this turtle can expect now he's on wheels?  I guess it really depends how closely he follows his maintenance schedule.  Make sure his bearings are well lubricated, wheels rotated...do they even make a hoist for a turtle?

What's next...a bionic dog that can dry-hump your leg at 60mph?, a bird with a 100 decibel squawk?... a cat that can ignore you faster than a speeding bullet?

Judging by these pictures...

THE FUTURE IN PET PROSTHESES HAS ARRIVED!
I hear a squeak...where's the nearest Mr Lube

Toronto Comic-Con 2011...AWESOME!!!

"I am NOT the Droid you're looking for"
Hello fellow geeks.  I am writing you now just a little geekier, a little happier and a little more tired.

My family and I just got back from our first comic-con in Toronto.  What a cool event.  My wife and I had a great time.  My little princess may have been a little young to appreciate the entire thing, but she was relatively content most of the time so no complainants.

60th Post - Upping my Geek Quotient

My Future office...Nice Eh?
Hey!!. This is my 60th...yes 60TH blog post. Who'd a thunk that I would be still writing in this thing after all this time.  That being said...

What have I gotten myself into?

Ok, so this whole "Geeky Dad" thing has inspired me to take a next step to secure my own little corner of the interweb.  In order to make this dream a reality, I have decided to make my own webpage and merge my Blog with my photography, Twitter, everything in one online place.  In order to do this I need a new website for www.geekydadsden.com that's not just a blog site.  Unfortunately its not in the budget to spend hundreds of dollars to have someone else do it for me.  So to keep expenses to a minimum, I am endeavoring to learn how to create my own website.  I'm going to learn HTML, CSS and all the other stuff associated that I haven't even begun to read about yet.  I'm not trying to become a master or make a living doing this, far from it.  I'm just looking to learn enough that my newly created website functions properly, does what I want it to do, and doesn't look like ass.  Luckily I have already been using photoshop for some time now with my whole love of photography so graphics and photos shouldn't be a problem. I would also like to think that some of those college courses are still resting, hung-over in my brain still, enough so that some of the stuff about esthetics and what makes something look good are still there.  So I got my first book "For Dummies" to get me started (from the library, again since I'm looking to keep expenses minimal) and we'll see how it goes.  All I can do at this point is do my research, pick programmer friends' brains and try my best....

Ok...

I'm going there;

"No...Try not....DO........or do not....there is no try" - Yoda

Ya..taking my geekyness to a whole other level was a great idea...yikes.

Earth: The New Tattooine?

The Earth with 2 Suns??  I can see the brooding Moisture Farm-boys now (“but I was going into Toshi Station to pick up some power converters”)

In all seriousness, this has got to be one of the freakiest/weirdest stories I’ve happened upon.

According to scientists, one of the brightest stars in the Orion constellation is due to explode.  The Red Supergiant, meaning it’s at the end of it’s life, could explode as soon as within the next few months.  The ensuing supernova could  be so bright that night would become day for a couple of weeks according to “experts”.

What is less certain to these “experts” is exactly when this will happen.  While they say it’s possible that it could happen within the year, they also say that it could also happen within the next million years...talk about  your wide open timeline. Sheesh.  Check out the story I read here.

...sounds like the kind of window a furniture delivery or cable company gives you for a service appointment doesn’t it?

The other thing that kind of makes me smile about this story is that the star that’s due to go “blewey”..it’s designation is “Betelgeuse”...You know..like the movie “Beetlejuice”  So basically, when this thing goes up......

IT’S SHOWTIME!!!
