My Riverdance Saga

Recently I had someone ask me about a Twitter Exchange they saw on my Blog Sidebar between my friend Ann-Marie and myself.  It Went something like this

Ann Marie Pincivero   ampincivero  @usethefarce I heard that you pulled a muscle Riverdancing?! Sorry I missed that! UR hilarious. Have a great weekend. Cheers. :)

Geeky Dad
usethefarce Who me? Lies I tells ya.

ampincivero @usethefarce A little bird told me. She's a nice bird. Seems trustworthy. :)

ampincivero @usethefarce But I know "Believe none of what you hear, half what you see & all that you experience." Come Riverdance at Ribfest tomorrow!

usethefarce @ampincivero it is true. But I'll save you the visual. Trust me its better for both of us. Was a one time thing I'll probably not live down

ampincivero  @usethefarce I wish I'd been there to see the once in a lifetime performance! :)

Let me explain a couple of things before I go too far.  First I work shifts...both days and nights.  Sometimes nightshifts are long and boring and often around 3 am two things happen to me.  I start to get a little silly/punchy..and I get a second wind.  Which is basically a "Perfect Storm" of comedy and embarrassment, comedy for my coworkers and embarrassment for me.
On this particular night I received an email with the following video
Now to this day I have no idea what came over me...but in talking/laughing about his video I thought it would be ok for me to regale my coworkers with my own version of the Riverdance (sans headband sadly)

Well two things happened..first I got what was possibly the biggest laugh of my life...the second?  I pulled a goddamn muscle.  Not in my legs, or hips, or even anywhere on my lower body.  I pulled a muscle....IN MY UPPER ARM...whaaa?  Yes..in my arm...in throwing my arms down stiffly at my sides I pulled a shoulder muscle.  Ouchie...and boy did that point out just how out of shape I am.  (I still say that I am, in fact, in shape...round is a shape damnit)

So this twitter exchange was just lat week...the event..occurred over a year ago.  Needless to say, I will probably never live this down.  I'm also constantly being asked to recreate it..which I really can't.  I tell people it was a once in a lifetime performance.  And if how my coworkers reacted to this time is any indication, I'll be much more careful where I direct my 3 am silly energy in the future.

Oh...incidentally, if you enjoy music and great song writing you should check out my friend Ann-Marie's YOU TUBE CHANNEL and Follow her on TWITTER

An "Incredible" Coincidence

The other day I was browsing IMDB as I tend to do from time to time.  While there I was checking out some of the new shows that are going to be coming out on TV this fall.  One of them caught my eye...the new Michael "The Shield" Chicklis show "No Ordinary Family".  From the looks of it it appears to be about a super-hero family with Michael starring as the Patriarch.  In looking at the photos something caught my eye.  I notice that the brick work on the fireplace showed a striking resemblance to another famous super-hero family's living room.

See what I'm talking about...no?...look at this photo with the areas highlighted

An Amazing Coincidence don't you think?  The Incredible's Living room has a very similar fireplace as the "No Ordinary Family" brood.  huh..I wonder if that was on purpose?

OH...AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY  MOMMY!!!

Indy News and a New Idea

Good morning friends and readers. I just finished working a 12 hr night shift so this one is going to be short and suh-weet, with a capital SUH. I read something that made me smile and wiggle in my chair a bit, as some of you may have guessed I'm a bit of an Indiana Jones fan...I loved all the movies..yes even the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, widely panned in the media but I still got all giggly when Indy put that hat on in the first couple of minutes. So I read HERE that Skull star Shia LaBeouf says he's in talks to reprise his role as the son of Indiana Jones in a fifth movie of whip cracking, action packing awesomeness. Britain's Daily Express reports that LaBeouf has confirmed earlier reports suggesting another Jones adventure may be in the works. Indy himself, the very awesome and incomparable Harrison Ford, had previously hinted that Doctor Jones may have enough gas left in the tank for one more go. Me likey. If this movie goes I'll be in line first day to go see it. Sure Indy may be getting up there but he still kicks ass.

I'm also throwing around ideas about a regular weekly posting on Stigmas that Geeky people face in the media etc. So if you read this, please enter comments below and give me your ideas for a title for this weekly feature, haven't decided on a day yet so go nuts. If I use your idea you get bragging rites and a mention of your own blog or site of your choice in the first posting of that blog

First baby Sickness - I'm Dealing

Hello,

Just wanted to let you all know I've been kind of out of the bloggersphere lately because my little girl has a stomach flu bug.  I never knew I'd be so obsessed with puke and poop before..but here it is.

You are not truly a parent until your baby barfs the entire contents of the bottle she just drank all over the both of you.  Also you have not lived till you've cleaned puke out of a car seat.

Be back soon...be well

Rules Schmules, it's Canada's Game

OH CANADA!
So among being a fan of other things, I also tend to skew to the side of stereo-typical Canadian male and I'm also a hockey fan.  Today I read a story in The Toronto Star about how right now, as every year, they're doing drills and experiments at training camp in order to try out some proposed new rules they're talking about adding to the NHL.  So naturally I have to comment on all the proposed rules they're talking about.

1. Use red mesh instead of white on nets to create better target for shooters.
Uhhhh..pass...I guess with those bright red posts and cross bar it just isn't visible enough...lame

2. No-touch icing.
I like this idea...safer and I get no thrill out of a race for the puck to decide and icing call

3. Overtime: 3 minutes of 4-on-4, followed by 3-on-3, then 2-on-2, then shootout.
I like up to the 3 on 3...2 on 2 is stupid, it would be like having a game of HORSE to decide the outcome of an NBA game. Again lame.  I do however like the switching of ends again in the 3rd period so the benches are further from the opposing net.  So could cause bad changes and more scoring chances.

4. On delayed penalty, offending team must not only touch the puck, but control it and get it out of their zone.
More scoring chances = more better

5. Wider blue lines to increase size of offensive zone.
Meh...next

6. Increase goaltender crease by three inches all around for more goalie protection.
Zzzzzzzzzzz

7. Shorten depth of net by four inches to increase area between net and boards.
More Skating room? Double ZZZZZ

8. After a faceoff violation, opposition centre may choose faceoff opponent.
What?  is this NHL or DDG (Duck Duck Goose)Ha

9. Second referee located off playing surface.
Are they going to make the rink bigger to accomodate all the extra people...lol..how about less refs...better calls and more video replay for anything questionable

10. Face off variation, where puck is placed on dot with faceoff commencing after official's whistle.
Really?...are the players taking the face off required to stare at each other like in Rockey IV (You vill lose, I must break you)

11. “Hybrid” icing where linesman determines who would reach the puck first when first man gets to face off dot, thus avoiding dangerous collision.
I like...safer and no real effect to game play

12. No icing the puck while shorthanded.
Nah...big part of the power play..don't mess with it
As a final thought..take away the shootout and allow ties...it's not the Olympics....it's a points system over a loooong season.  Don't get me wrong, I feel they are very exciting...I just don't like having a single player decide the outcome in a team sport.

Oh..And this is my 40th Blog post...yay me

Nerdgasm!!...Sorry about the mess

When a monk spends years in reflection and prayer, they dedicate each and every day of their life to a higher power and to what they are truly passionate about and then one day, out of the blue they have that one moment of total enlightenment and it brings meaning for all the years and years of hard work and dedication.  Well loyal readers, the equivialant of that just happened to me today when I read that George Lucas Announced Star Wars is to be released on Blu-Ray at Celebration V.

This is the culmination of every geeky tendency that  I have had since the day I was hatched.  I am so freakin' excited...no wait..I think I really need to swear here....I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED!!!

Also, in relation to this they have released a deleted scene from Episode VI Return of the Jedi showing Luke building his lightsaber before infiltrating Jabba's palace.

To say this was a minor event in my life would be a lie...two things have topped today, my wedding day and the birth of my daughter...other than those two days, today is

BEST DAY EVER!!!!!

Another Trip to Lohan La La Land

I'd hate to do this to everyone but I'm about to make another posting about Lindsay "I'm a celebrity and thus have no consequences to my actions" Lohan.  The latest is that she is supposedly going to be getting out of rehab early now.  Judge Marsha Revel had previously sentenced Lohan to 90 days in a rehabilitation program, but now that Revel has recused herself from the case, Lohan’s sentence could be modified.  “My understanding from conversations with [Lohan’s lawyer] Shawn Chapman Holley is that Miss Lohan could be released early from the treatment facility,” prosecutor Danette Meyers told Radar. “It is looking as if that is what the health care professionals are going to recommend. How much earlier she could be released I’m unsure of at this point.”  Holley told Radar that her client has made significant improvement and would like to return to acting as soon as possible.  "Ms. Lohan looks very good. She looks healthy,” Holley said. “My client is looking forward to returning to work on her many creative endeavors upon her release from the treatment facility."

Once again the public servants are bowing to these celebrities just because they're famous.  Or in LiLo's case, Quasi-Famous-Semi-Hasbeen.  Oh My god....this judge should be removed from the bench for being so wishy washy. Either punish her or let her off...don't sentence her to do time in jail and a rehab facility then rescind what you just tried to implement.
A judge, a judge, my kindom for a decent judge

The Show-mance Phenomenon

Ok...This story has just come to my attention this morning. It appears that on the heels of the new Julia Roberts movie "Eat, Pray, Love" it appears that Ms Roberts has announced that she is converting to Hinduism after spending so much time in India. In a recent interview she said she was profoundly moved by the country, its people and, of course, the Taj Mahal. So much so, that she has converted to Hinduism.

All of this is just a little too convenient. It seems like more of a publicity strategy for the movie than an actual legitimate movement of faith. And to me, this whole thing is just the tip of the iceberg.

All of these movies and TV shows that are breeding (pun intended) real-life couplings are highly suspect to me. I mean the whole Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart romance is a joke..it's like you can hear the teenage screams of "like oh my god, they're together for like realsies, they must be the most awesomest couple ever" (You have no idea how many times I had to bash myself in the head in order to write that last sentence...ouchie). That's not all, they're just one of several pairings and rumored pairings to come out of the relevant co-star's movie releases. Gerard Butler & Jennifer Aniston (The Bounty Hunter), Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), and from the cast of "Glee" 2 Pairings, Mark Salling, aka Puck, and Naya Rivera, aka Cheerio Santana as well as Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) and Kevin McHale (Artie) have been knocking Gleek-boots. The list goes on and on, actors and actresses that have hooked up, some married and, most of them Divorced.

Am I the only one who sees these "Show-mances" for complete shams and as yet another way to promote movies and TV shows in the age of Facebook and Twitter where one positive (or Negative) message can make or break a show? You didn't see Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher hooking up just before "The Empire Strikes Back" was released. Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler never hooked up during the whole "Lord of the Rings" Phenomenon. Why cant movies just stand on their own two feet and let the movies speak for themselves and not have to resort to this shameless form of promotion. What's next? Are Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth going to have a Torrid love affair shortly before the release "Thor" Next year? Maybe Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Optimus Prime will get robo-jiggy with it before the next Transformers movie?

I may be "Mr Conspiracy Theory" or something, but I doubt I'm the only one who's noticed this.

Just a Minor Geek-Out

First think I want to talk about it the new Blackberry Torch 9800 that was released this week, which is basically an iPhone with a slide out qwerty keyboard.  This newest blackberry is supposed to be RIM's competition for Apple's iPhone.  Now I love Blackberry, I own a blackberry, but I think we can safely say that, while impressive, it will most likely only make a small dent.  I also love Apple products...I'm typing this very blog on my iMac, I own an iPod Touch, I will not however own an iPad...for that rant check out my past blog HERE. Anyway, have a look at the video below.

A couple other things this week have me kind of Geeking out...first is this, the sequel for one of my favourite video games of the last couple of years....The Force Unleashed II

The Final thing that's got me all Geeked and bothered is this....the extended trailer for the Upcoming Thor Movie....which for some reason I can't find a copy of so you'll just have to use your imaginations and have to trust me...it's awesome.  Here's a couple of stills from it though.

I know it's not much..but it's all I got tonight :)

Things I Learned From My First Video Blog

Well...it has been around 24hrs since my first “Video” Blog and I’ve been doing the typical mulling over what the hell I just did.  Reflecting on the whole process, how it came across etc.  Although remarks at my Facebook page have been extremely positive and supportive, being my own worst critic I saw lots of stuff I want to change.  So....on this.....the “Day After” I thought I would share my reflections on the whole thing.  So with that I present

The Things I Learnd From My First Video Blog

1.        I will never get used to seeing or hearing myself on camera.  Even though I enjoyed the end result and felt it wasn’t terrible for a first time, it’s still a frickin weird feeling to be editing a video that has my moon-sized face staring back at me.

2.       It’s very intimidating to be sitting in front of a camera, even alone in my own basement with nobody else around, I found myself feeling very self conscious and very self aware.  Thoughts like ”is this stupid?” “is this funny?” “will people think I’m a narcissistic douche for even trying it” were running through my head the entire time.  I’ve always been more of a “behind the scenes” sort of person and have, frequently, been behind the camera but rarely have I ventured in front.  Kind of gives me a new respect for the men and women who do on camera and modelling work as their careers.  It’s hard.

3.       Adlibbing even a few sentences and trying to sound intelligible is way harder than I thought it would be.  I’m not a public speaker by any stretch of the imagination, but I consider myself a fairly outgoing and easy going person and figured it would be a piece of cake.  Not so much.  I stumbled on words, ummed and aaaahed my way through my spiel  and, as an added bonus, with all the stuff going through my head in point #2 made really hard to not sound like a blabbering fat-head.  Next Video blog (if there is one...who am I kidding..there probably will be) will either be scripted fully or at very least have point-form notes for me to refer to.  Hopefully it will make editing easier and make the Video Blogs better and funnier as that is my main goal...to Entertain.
4.   I have a big head...perhaps a collection of various hats can be used to combat the problem?

Well that’s what I’ve learned so far...I suppose eventually I will get better and/or find more things to criticize about myself...for now this will do.

Stay Tuned for further updates...both written and visual :)

Oh..for those of you who comment on my stories back where you hear about them...be it Twitter or Facebook...just remember you can also comment on the blog posts themselves, right on this page..just click the "comment" link and fill in the form...it's that easy.

Has it Been 2 Weeks Already?

Well She's out...Sort of.

After a mere 14 days of her 90 Day sentance, it's off to Rehab for our little Disney Princess...I guess she was upset today because she didn't have any sort of break after jail and before rehab. My heart bleeds.

Her Whole Life is a friggin vacation. Someone really needs to grasp her firmly by both shoulders and Shake....vigorously!!!

Sure, Lindsay is in Jail...But Where's The VIP Room??

As Usual...fame Whore, eternal wanna-be and Mommy to Lindsay has to chime in with her 2 cents worth.  "We're all so happy that this is finally coming to a close," Dina told Radar online recently. "When this first happened, we were all hysterical messes. But I'm so proud of Lindsay, she's been so strong and positive, even under what I consider to be an extremely harsh punishment." Humiliations that Lindsay has endured include being deprived of water (except for the water that comes out of her sink), sleeping without a pillow, and being separated from her visitors by glass.

Dina concludes that her daughter is being treated like "a common criminal" instead of the Disney princess she, uh, was?...uhhh yeah what?  She is a Common Criminal...hello...just because she's a celebrity..not even that much anymore.

Lindsay's lawyer has already questioned the fairness of making the 24-year-old go straight to rehab from prison. And she doesn't get to choose her own facility, making it less likely she'll go to some Jacuzzi-equipped cakewalk like Promises.

How about a somewhere in Turkey?  Guantanamo??
